In this instalment of Formidable Sekurians, we spotlight Jeremy Araullo’s inspiring professional career.
Career Journey
What was your first ever job?
My first paying role was as a Network Engineer for a large bank in the Philippines after completing my studies in Electronics Engineering.
Tell us about your professional journey before joining Sekuro.
Two years into my first role, I was invited to join a newly created Information Security department. I immediately embraced it and told myself I could do this until I retire. 10 years in, I am still here.
How did Sekuro come onto your radar?
Discovering Solista while breaking into the Australian cyber consulting field was a happy coincidence, and one of the best things that ever happened to me.
What attracted you to join Sekuro and how has your role evolved since joining?
It started as an opportunity to do consulting work. I began as a Senior Security Consultant, progressed to Principal Security Engineer, and then into managing the Cyber Delivery Team.
Please describe your current role at Sekuro.
As Director of the TPE Team, I provide people and technical leadership, stay involved in projects, and mentor new team members to make them Sekuro-ready.
Growth and Support at Sekuro
In what ways has Sekuro supported your growth?
Sekuro has provided the right tools, an environment where voices are heard, and a positive culture that has motivated me throughout my time here.
How has your leadership team helped you succeed?
People like Noel, Sam and Danny have been there from the beginning, through fun and stressful times alike. They have been trusted advisors as much as managers.
Success, Happiness & Advice
What are the key attributes that help someone thrive at Sekuro?
Being helpful and collaborative. Sekuro is a treasure chest of experience and elite skills, it would be a shame not to make the most of that.
What advice would you give to new team members?
Enjoy your job and don’t be afraid to take risks!
Most memorable achievement at Sekuro?
Working with a large financial organisation to encrypt their sensitive databases. It was a significant undertaking, but I was fulfilled to help them protect their customer data.
Best piece of advice you have ever been given?
“The best person to lend you a helping hand could be the one sitting beside you.”
Looking Foward
What does the future hold for cybersecurity?
Today’s landscape is unrecognisable compared to a decade ago. My 11-year-old daughter delivered a school speech on AI that was the purest take on its benefits and dangers I have ever heard. The future brings excitement and challenges, and I am ready for both.
What excites you most about your future at Sekuro?
Seeing skilled professionals and AI work in harmony while maintaining that personal touch on every project.
What keeps you here at Sekuro?
This role has been instrumental in setting an example for my daughters. Ten years ago, I found something special here, and I haven’t looked back since.
