Defence Industry Security Program (DISP)

The Defence Industry Security Program (DISP) - What is it?

As stated on their website, the Defence Industry Security Program (DISP), is managed by the Defence Industry Security Office (DISO), in order to support Australian businesses to understand and meet their security obligations when engaging in Defence projects, contracts and tenders.

It is essentially security vetting for Australian businesses.

The DISP:

  • Helps to get the right security requirements when delivering Defence contracts and tenders.
  • Gives access to Defence security advice and support services.
  • Helps better understand and manage security risks across a business.
  • Provides confidence and assurance to Defence and other government entities (either Australian or foreign) when procuring goods and services from industry members.

What does Sekuro do with DISP?

As a DISP member, Sekuro has proven expertise in working with other organisations seeking to partner with Defence and with Defence industries. We focus on managing risks and raising levels of security protection across governance, personnel security, physical security and cyber security.

In some instances, depending on the type of work undertaken with Defence or any contractual requirements, DISP membership will be mandated.

While membership is not mandated in all circumstances, it is highly recommended for businesses currently working on Defence projects or for those seeking to partner with Defence.

Sekuro has proven expertise in working with organisations to become compliant to many industry frameworks and certifications – DISP is no different.

Our experienced consultants will work with you to establish your exact requirements, and we are also authorised to sponsor a clearance.

Why is the Defence Industry Security Program (DISP) important for Australian Organisations?

Whether you are an Australian business currently working with Defence or seeking to partner with Defence, there is a joint obligation to contribute to the security of our people, information and assets.

There are many things Australian businesses can do to minimise security risks and raise their levels of security protection across the security categories of governance, personnel security, physical security, information and cyber security.

Instrumental to this is membership of the Defence Industry Security Program (DISP).

DISP FAQs

The DISP is important because it helps to protect Defence information and assets from unauthorized access, use, disclosure, modification, or destruction. The DISP also helps to ensure that Defence contracts are awarded to businesses that have the necessary security controls in place to protect Defence information and assets.
To become a DISP member, you must complete an application form and submit it to the DISO. The application form will ask you to provide information about your business, your security controls, and your compliance with the DISP requirements. The DISO will assess your application and will notify you of their decision within a reasonable timeframe. If your application is approved, you will be required to sign a DISP membership agreement.

As a DISP member, you will have access to a number of benefits, including:

  • Access to Defence security advice and support services.
  • Assistance in understanding and meeting security obligations.
